BrainCamp is a 5-day/5-night group camping experience that blends cutting-edge neuroscience and psychology content with an outdoor education model.

Each day, students (Grades K-12) explore a new topic in the brain sciences by considering how the topic is relevant to them as they camp and explore their natural world.

  • “Day 0” (Night 1): Introduction to the Science of Mind and Brain

  • Day 1: The Human Nervous System and Neurological Diseases

    • Injuries and Illnesses in the Outdoors (e.g., concussions, spinal cord injuries, psychotropic plants, mammalian brain dissection)

  • Day 2: Human and Non-Human Sensory Systems

    • Sensory Systems in California’s Native Animals (e.g., bears, bats, bees, birds)

  • Day 3: Addiction and Reward Systems

    • Addiction Neurochemistry (e.g., hands-on study of technology withdrawal)

  • Day 4: Memory and Cognition

    • Models of Memory (e.g., flashbulb memories and scenic vistas)

    • Learning in Wildlife (e.g., bears, migratory birds)

  • Day 5: The Science of Mindfulness

    • Ancient and Emerging Science of Mindfulness Practices (e.g., yoga, meditation)
